A wave-like progression of the hair growth cycle is a recognized phenomenon in many experimental animals, especially in certain rodents, such as mice, rats and rabbits (1-10). However, in the guinea-pig, this wave-like progression of the hair growth cycle has not been observed (1) and in this animal each individual hair apparently has its own cycle, independent of the others (8) (10). In guinea-pigs, therefore, the hair growth is much more like that in man, than is the hair growth in mice,...

Abstract The Oramutia volcanics consist of a group of ignimbrites overlain by pumice tuffs, which lie in a fault formed valley on the eastern flank of the main Kenya rift valley. The presence of a dyke of ignimbrite suggests that the “claystone ” ignimbrite of this area was erupted from fissures. A similar explanation probably applies to the pumice tuffs. These volcanics are therefore the product of Katmaian type eruptions.

r NHERE is an extensive literature concerning changes in social structure and economic conditions in Africa,2 but apart from the work of Biesheuvel3 and Doob,4 systematic information about beliefs and attitudes seems to be scarce. The aim of this study, undertaken in I955, was to fill this gap for one particular area. An attempt was made to assess the balance of traditional versus western values in some crucial areas of life, for one section of the literate community. The actual survey was...

Abstract Volcanic activity was important in Spain during the second half of the Cenozoic Era. It was closely related to the late kinematic and subsequent periods of the Alpidic orogenic cycle. Manifestations of the volcanic activity are seen in several parts of the Iberian Peninsula, but the main ones were confined to a few rather individualized zones. Cabo de Gata, Cartagena, and Mazarrón show a strong similarity, as does the Guelaya volcanic province, Morocco. The rocks (rhyolites, dacites...
