The aim of the study was to assess HIV/AIDS knowledge and sexual behaviour among jun- ior Secondary School students in South Africa using a cross-sectional survey design. Public participation in schools has become a cornerstone of the South African education landscape. Traditionally schools have been hierarchical, authoritarian institutions. One of the aims of the South African Schools Act of 1996 is to promote greater participation by parents, learners and the community in the organisation, governing and funding of schools.
