This report outlines research funded by the Disability Rights Commission (DRC) and undertaken between August 2004 and March 2005, by a team based at the University of Birmingham. The remit was to explore the educational experiences of disabled pupils/students and their families. This encompassed identifying (broadly) their concerns and priorities but also, importantly, identifying and trialling appropriate research methodologies.

Using an experimental design with a sample of African-American high school students (n=94), this study examines the determinants of students' initial trust beliefs about adult mentors. Consistent with the model of initial trust formation, results indicate that both structural assurance beliefs and youth dispositions toward trust were positive, significant predictors of the belief in an adult mentor's benevolence, honesty, competence, and predictability. Benthic, water and sediment samples were collected at Okobaba, a sawmill site, and Iddo, a sewage dumpage site, in an open estuarine lagoon, in southwestern Nigeria during two periods (December 1999-May 2000 and April 2002-September 2002).
