While the development of cognition among African children has been studied, in this short review in only six studies was the relation between cognitive development and performance by subjects of school age assessed. Evidence shows that the attainment of certain cognitive concepts is associated weakly with successful performance in school ( rs < .36).

Abstract About 60 volcanic-plutonic alkaline complexes of Tertiary age are located along the continental part of the Cameroon Line. The knowledge of and attitude to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) of 738 secondary school youths in Calabar were studied by questionnaire in March 1991. Most (92%) of the adolescents had heard about AIDS, largely through the mass media (79-85%), with parents and teachers contributing in less than 40%. SPECIAL EDUCATION now serves students at all levels in Nigeria. Differences exist between states and between urban and rural areas. Considerable efforts have been made to promote integration though special schools are also an important part of the service pattern.
