Abstract
The major purposes to which the results of assessment could be put were diagnosis, evaluation,guidance, grading prediction, and selection. In Nigeria, it is unfortunate that the results of manyexaminations have been used almost exclusively for grading and promotion exercises and inevitablythere has been a neglect of diagnosis, guidance and evaluation although considerable informal use ofassessment for these purposes are made by teachers in the classroom.
