The paper reports on how children from poor families in Uganda finance their university education. A livelihoods systems framework is used to analyse the responses of a series of student discussion groups which explored what it costs to attend university and how these funds are secured. Abstract This article looks at the reflections of four teachers who work with African American students. The teachers were past participants of the Minority/Multicultural Mentorship Project, a multicultural teacher education program. Using qualitative analysis, three themes arose from the data: Behavior, Language and Curriculum. The teachers' use of culturally responsive pedagogical practices demonstrated the high expectations they had of their African American students.
