In this study, the Double-Hurdle Model (DHM) is compared to the more traditional technique, the Heckman's (1976) two-stage selection model in estimating the private rate of return to education in South Africa. The Heckman's model compares well with the DHM with correlated errors between the participation and employment functions. An investigation was conducted at the Ahmadu Bello University Veterinary Teaching Hospital (ABUVTH) between January, 1990 and September, 2003 to determine the aetiology and prevalence of canine anaemia in Zaria, Nigeria.
