The present study examines the relevance of globalization in lifelong gender inclusive education for structural transformation. The focus of the research is on 41 countries in Africa using data from 2004 to 2021. The generalized method of moments (GMM) is employed to assess the problem statement within the remit of interactive regressions. Gender inclusive lifelong learning is measured as gender inclusive education acquired during the three levels of education, notably: primary, secondary...

We investigate rare seismicity in the neighborhood of the Fentale volcano, main Ethiopian rift that occurred in spring 2015 using data recorded by the Ethiopian Seismic Station Network. Over 1350 earthquakes are located and a seismic swarm is observed to the northeast of Fentale volcano, with the largest earthquake having a magnitude of 4.3 ML. Several VT (volcano-tectonic) and LP (long-period) events are observed in the swarm, indicating that it is induced by magmatic intrusion, consistent...

Abstract
In recent times, many investigators have delved into plastic waste (PW) research, both locally and internationally. Many of these studies have focused on problems related to land-based and marine-based PW management with its attendant impact on public health and the ecosystem. Hitherto, there have been little or no studies on forecasting PW quantities in developing countries (DCs). The key objective of this study is to provide a forecast on PW generation in the city of...

Abstract
Climate change constitutes one of the greatest threats to human health globally and there have been increasing interests in understanding the dynamics of climate change consciousness particularly in in less industrialised countries of Africa. Research on cross-country, sub-regional and continent differences in climate change consciousness are rare especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Thus, to complement the existing body of literature, this study was conducted on...

Students have preferences in the way they internalize information. The VARK – an acronym for Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic questionnaire, tests students choices for preferred mode of internalizing information. The VARK questionnaire were administered to 400 level and 600 level medical students, a total of 123 of them participated in the study. Majority of them 89.4% preferred the multimodal mode of information reception while 10.56% were unimodal. A further analysis of the...

Little academic research has been conducted on how people conceptualise ‘violence’ and ‘discipline’, especially in humanitarian settings. This may limit the transferability of violence prevention interventions. This paper examines the understanding of violence and discipline concepts among students, teachers, and parents in the Nyarugusu Refugee Camp in Tanzania. A qualitative study was undertaken as part of the larger trial testing the effectiveness of the EmpaTeach intervention to prevent...

Most information on the occurrences of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in natural water bodies comes from developed nations, leaving developing countries like Ethiopia understudied. This study examines the presence and potential ecological risks of APIs in Lake Hawassa, a tropical freshwater lake in the Ethiopian Rift Valley. The study analyzed 36 APIs from 11 therapeutic classes of human medications in water and sediment samples. The risk quotient (RQ) method was used to assess...

Purpose : Online learning, or e-learning, has grown exponentially in recent years, not least because the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many educational establishments to adopt distance learning modalities. In the field of pharmacy, where the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge is essential, the adoption of e-learning has attracted particular interest. The aim of this study is to analyze the feedback received by pharmacy students from different faculties in the country following...

Higher education institutions play an important role in fostering a positive student attitude towards entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurial attitude concerns one's predisposition to look favourably or unfavourably upon starting a business. Previous studies discuss whether gender might affect this attitude. The aim of this paper is to supplement the scant, Morocco-based studies by exploring whether gender influences students' entrepreneurial attitudes, taking into account their marital status and...

Abstract This study investigates meteorological drought in sub‐Saharan Africa within the context of elephant conservation. Prolonged drought significantly impacts elephants, leading to increased mortality rates and heightened human–elephant conflicts. We assess both the anticipated 21st century changes in impact‐relevant meteorological drought metrics and the efficacy of existing forecasting systems in predicting such droughts on seasonal time scales. The climate change element of our study...

We use a field experiment to test whether financial incentives can improve the quality of apprenticeship training. Trainers (firm owners) in the treatment group participated in a tournament incentive scheme where they received a payment based on their apprentices’ rank-order performance on a skills assessment. Trainers in the control group received a fixed payment based on their apprentices’ participation in the assessment. Performance on the assessment was higher in the treatment group. Two...

While socioeconomic and institutional factors are crucial in explaining the onset and evolution of conflicts, recent research suggests that climate change is a further indirect driver acting as a “threat multiplier”. This paper focuses on the concept of vulnerability to both climate change and conflicts to explain why some locations are more likely to engage in armed conflicts than others in the presence of a similar level of exposure to climatic changes. In particular, by means of a Spatial...
