This paper describes the development of the library profession and education in Ethiopia from its beginning to date in the context of such developments in the USA, UK and Africa. The recognition of the library profession in Ethiopia started with some short and informal courses in 1959, and in 1966 by formally starting a diploma minor programme. At present, it is providing library and information training at diploma, bachelor’s and master’s levels.

According to a randomized study conducted in early 1990 the majority of Zambian students hold conservative attitudes toward risky sexual behavior. Overall 74% disapproved of premarital sex and 84% disapproved of extramarital affairs. This article reports on the psychometric properties of the UCLA Loneliness Scale employed with a sample of South African students. Respondents consisted of 659 undergraduate students (39.4% males, 60.6% females) at the University of Western Cape, South Africa.
