The main objective of this study was to investigate the effects of climate and land-use changes on water availability and sediment loads in the April 9 dam basin in northern Morocco, using data-rich simulation models in an area characterized by limited data availability. Impacts were evaluated for 4 scenarios of sediment yield, water yield and water balance until 2050, all after calibration and validation of the baseline period. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model was used to...

Abstract This article assesses the effect of climate change on livestock production in Sub‐Saharan Africa, for a sample of 45 countries over the period 2000–2021. Using a two‐factor fixed effects panel data model, our results obtained by the two‐way fixed effects estimator show that (i) climate change negatively influences livestock production through high temperatures, while abundant rainfall is beneficial. (ii) Through transmission channels, we find that maize price volatility exacerbates...

Abstract The southeastern tropical Atlantic hosts a coastal upwelling system characterized by high biological productivity. Three subregions can be distinguished based on differences in the physical climate: the tropical Angolan and the northern and southern Benguela upwelling systems (tAUS, nBUS, sBUS). The tAUS, which is remotely forced via equatorial and coastal trapped waves, can be characterized as a mixing-driven system, where the wind forcing plays only a secondary role. The nBUS and...

The combined effects of changes in climate and land use and land cover can lead to a decrease in soil organic carbon, potentially affecting soil fertility and agricultural output. The study aimed to evaluate the dynamics of soil organic carbon under various extreme climate and land use and land cover scenarios. The data on land use types and extreme climate indices between 2015 and 2070 were, respectively, sourced from the IPCC and the European Copernicus Climate Change Service webpages. The...

Abstract This article discusses a three-year study (2020–2022) of dominant misconceptions (DMs) for a large cohort of first-year physics course students at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Our study considered pre-test scores on the force concept inventory using a graphical method, where we found statistical differences between the mean DM scores for the 2020 cohort, as compared to the 2021 and 2022 cohort; possibly due to the onset of COVID lockdowns. We also compared our data...
