This paper presents a retrospective analysis of randomly selected clinical scintigraphic records at the College of Medicine/Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. Out of the 436 patients scanned for various thyroid abnormalities, 266 (61.0%) were used for the analysis due to insufficient data and parameters required for the analysis in the clinical records. Among these 266 cases selected, euthyroidism showed the highest incidence of 123 (46.2%). This was followed by hyperthyroidism 103...

Broad hydrochemical survey has been carried out to study the spatial variation of the major ions composition of the surface and groundwater systems in the Ethiopian volcanic terrain and associated Plio-Quaternary sediments. The result revealed wide hydrochemical variations controlled by geological, geochemical, geomorphological and climatological factors. The total ionic concentration increases dramatically from the highlands towards the rift valley following the regional groundwater flow...

This study evaluated our experience with echocardiographic studies over a period of 10 years (February 1991 to January 2001). Two thousand five hundred and twenty seven patients (1577 males, 950 females), aged between 3 weeks to 85, years were referred for echocardiography at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu. The commonest indications for echocardiography were found to be Valvular Heart Diseases (16%), Hypertensive Heart Disease (15%) and Congenital Heart Diseases...

A prospective study was conducted at Lagos University Teaching Hospital on patients with malignancies of the head and neck region treated with external beam irradiation type and severity of hearing loss. Each patient had a preirradiation and post irradiation pure tone audiogram at 3 weeks, 8 weeks and 6 months. Following completion of radiotherapy serial post irradiation audiogram threshold was compared with pre-treatment threshold. An increase of 10 dB HL (decibel hearing level) or greater...

Abstract We present a first assessment of the potential impacts of anthropogenic climate change on the endemic flora of Namibia, and on its vegetation structure and function, for a projected climate in ∼2050 and ∼2080. We used both niche‐based models (NBM) to evaluate the sensitivity of 159 endemic species to climate change (of an original 1020 plant species modeled) and a dynamic global vegetation model (DGVM) to assess the impacts of climate change on vegetation structure and ecosystem...
