This paper presents an overview of the current nursing education system in Mauritius. There are strong indicators for a complete restructuring of the curriculum and a revisiting of ways and means of programme delivery. With the existing facilities of a Centre for Distance Learning and a newly created Virtual Centre for Innovative Learning Technology, the University of Mauritius is positioning itself to play a leading role in providing a new programme in nursing education through distance education.
