Educating blind children in schools based on European and North American standards is too expensive for Ethiopia, which has limited means and formidable problems. After a survey of residential schools for the blind and blind secondary students, the Ethiopian National Association of the Blind designed a new educational service delivery model that relies on elements of community-based rehabilitation and the employment of blind high school graduates.

The author notes that the educational system in Cameroon is unable to cope adequately with the growth in the demand for places at kindergarten and primary levels. Ways to improve the present situation are explored.

Nigerian high school athletes (112 high and 90 low in performance) and 108 nonathletes were administered the Tennessee Self-concept Scale. Athletes scored significantly higher on all self-concept subscales except behavior, moral-ethical and family. Better athletes scored significantly higher on all aspects of self-concept: social, moral-ethical, family and behavior, as is consistent with findings from the USA and other countries.

A representative sample of 614 schoolchildren of Cape Verde Islands, 7, 12 and 15 years old, was randomly selected. The dental caries prevalence was determined in each age group using the dmft and DMFT indices. The mean DMFT index increased from 2.38 at age 7 to 4.5 at age 15 years. The percentage of children with caries free permanent teeth decreased from 74.5% to 10.4% between 7 and 15 years of age.

Abstract This paper analyzes the relative importance of education in reducing child mortality in Egypt. It uses World Fertility Survey data on various proximate determinants of child mortality for 2,599 Egyptian households. An investigation into the causes of poor achievement in West African School Certificate Mathematics examinations was conducted in eleven randomly selected secondary schools in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State. Evaluating counseling training programs from the client's perspective has posed a methodological challenge for family planning researchers. This report describes an evaluation method that combines clinic observation with an exit interview methodology.
