The Lake Natron–Engaruka Monogenetic Volcanic Field (LNE-MVF) in northern Tanzania consists of more than 150 vents of Upper Pleistocene to Holocene age that are scattered over an area of 2500 km2. Here we describe the petrological characteristics of these eruptions in detail and link the magma chemistry to eruptive behavior when the magmas reach the surface. Erupted magmas are predominantly of melilititic or nephelinitic compositions (70 and 25%, respectively), together with minor amounts of...

This paper adopts a novel learning perspective on information systems development. Building on the works of Anselm Strauss we conceptualize development processes as “negotiated orders” where members from different “social worlds” encounter and negotiate differences and tensions. We investigate the relationship between sulfur and oxygen fugacity at Erta Ale and Masaya volcanoes. Oxygen fugacity was assessed utilizing Fe 3+ /∑Fe and major element compositions measured in olivine‐hosted melt inclusions and matrix glasses. Erta Ale melts have Fe 3+ /∑Fe of 0.15–0.16, reflecting f O 2 of ΔQFM 0.0 ± 0.3, which is indistinguishable from f O 2 calculated from CO 2 /CO ratios in high‐temperature gases. Masaya is more oxidized at ΔQFM +1.7 ± 0.4, typical of arc settings....
