As a possible response to the shortage of qualified teachers in Africa, a promising pilot study using television is being carried out at the A. Le Dantec University Hospital in Dakar, Senegal. Trainees at the Dakar Medical School receive long-distance coaching mainly in video-assisted surgery from experts at several partner centers in Europe, namely: Rangueil Hospital in Toulouse, France, IRCAD in Strasbourg, France and Saint Peter's Hospital in Brussels, Belgium.
