Extreme events punctuate the climate variability that directly affects the national economies of West African countries, those of the Sahel in particular, due to the low level of water control and poor reservoir filling conditions. This paper examines the dynamics of hydrological extremes and thus droughts and floods from the Faleme basin to the Gourbassi and Kidira stations, taking into account the context of climate change. The analyses are based on daily maximum (Dmax) and minimum...

Climate change has led countries to develop mitigation strategies and policies to support populations in their adaptation to its impacts. By analyzing the climate change adaptation policies it is possible to understand how human mobility is included in (or excluded from) those same policies. Volcanic landscapes during island formation are due to lava flows and their accumulation processes. However, erosive processes dominate landscape reshaping during periods of volcanic inactivity, posing unique and crucial land-use planning challenges. In the North Atlantic Ocean, the Cape Verde archipelago is an excellent area for assessing the implications of erosive processes on the definition of land planning strategies. Accordingly, this study focuses on the extensive Assomada Plateau...

The architecture of the magma storage system underneath Fogo Volcano (Cape Verde Archipelago) is characterised using novel fluid inclusion results from fifteen basanites, spanning the last 120 thousand years of volcanic activity, and encompassing a major flank collapse event at ∼73 ka. Fluid inclusions, hosted in olivine and clinopyroxene, are made of pure CO2, and based on their textural characteristics, are distinguished in early (Type I) and late (Type II) stage. Inclusions homogenize to...
