Abstract South Africa Indians come from a variety of linguistic cind cultural backgrounds. Although most South African Indians have adopted English as their mother tongue, their variety of English tends to deviote from Standard English. In this paper a number of common errors of South African Indian secondary school pupils are presented and reasons for these errors are discussed.
