Abstract : This note was prepared as part of a larger project entitled 'The effectiveness of U.S. Military Training Activities in Promoting Internal Defense and Development in the Third World.' The purpose of the project is to assess the effectiveness of programs to train U.S. students in foreign internal defense (FID) and foreign students in internal defense and development (IDAD), to examine the benefits that the United States derives from these programs, and to consider how future efforts can be improved and strengthened.

As the world becomes more interdependent, nurses must become more knowledgeable about transcultural issues. In order to prepare nursing students to work in a multicultural world, faculty members must become actively involved in activities which will increase their cultural knowledge and sensitivity. Involvement in transcultural nursing education projects can provide an excellent opportunity to learn and grow. The authors describe their experiences, some key pedagogical issues encountered and some lessons learned.

During the years 1893-1914 the amazing total of 31 students with South African connections studied at the famous Conservatory of Music in Leipzig. This article presents information about these pioneers, gleaned from their enrolment forms and final reports which are held in the Archives of the Hochschule for Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig. The study aimed to determine knowledge about health health-seeking behavior attitudes toward female sexual activity impacts of sexual activity and age at onset of sexual activity among adolescent high school girls in Kenya. Data were obtained from a nationwide survey in September 1992 among 9997 secondary schoolgirls in 17 Kenyan districts. 60% of respondents were from the 4 main ethnic groups. 87% were Christians. The argument in this paper centres on architectural education, research, and theory. Architectural studies draw on a variety of disciplines. This, conventionally, is a justification for locating schools of architecture in universities. However, without a scholarly base of theory and research in the discipline, this rationale remains questionable. The changing socioeconomic and political conditions in South Africa highlight this dilemma.
