A Longitudinal study of the developmental nature of career decidedness and the relation of grade, socioeconomic status, and gender to such decidedness was undertaken on a sample of 214 white South African high school students. The results of the study support a developmental progression toward greater career decidedness for all students except those who progressed from Grades 9 to 11. This study examined differences on the Racial Identity Attitude Scale (RIAS; Helms & Parham, 1985) and the Problem Solving Inventory (PSI; Heppner, 1981, 1988) among 34 African and 48 African American graduate students. A survey of 6882 primary school children living in Ilorin, Nigeria revealed that 3.7% of the children were infested with Pediculus humanus capitis. Infestation rate among the children in the Islamic community was 4.1%, whereas in the Christian area, the infestation rate was 3%. Girls had a higher infestation rate (5.6%) than boys (2.1%). Annual selective chemotherapy with praziquantel was implemented in primary schools in the endemic suburbs of Bujumbura from 1984 to 1992. During the first 6-year period, the overall prevalence among pupils decreased from 23.3% to 9.1%, a reduction of 61%. We evaluated the enrollment of secondary school students as voluntary unremunerated blood donors in a city where the HIV-1 prevalence among the adult population is 11.8%. Between 1st July, 1992 and 1st December, 1993, consecutive blood donors were screened for anti-HIV-1, TPHA, HBsAg and anti-HBc. This study investigated the immuno-protective diphtheria antitoxin titres of 38 guest workers from Mozambique and 44 students from Cameroon 18 to 35 years of age. Two methods were used to analyse the sera: the cell culture method and the indirect haemagglutination test. The results of both methods were comparable.
