Abstract Infant guinea pigs were hand‐fed a 10% sucrose solution and poisoned after delays of 0 min, 30 min, or 24+ hr. Subjects in the first 2 groups showed significant sucrose aversions when tested more than a month later. No significant difference existed between the 0‐ and 30‐min groups; no deficiency in this type of learning was evident even in neonates. All 3 groups showed a lower sucrose preference if first exposed to sucrose at ages 0–6 days than at 7–11 days. Evidently exposure to...

This study is primarily a description of the social background of students at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria. But it also attempts to put this data alongside comparable data that are available from other West African countries. The aim is therefore to present data on the Nigerian university and social situation, while at the same time suggesting directions which class formation may be taking in Nigeria and elsewhere in West Africa. In recent years political scientists, along with other...

It has been brought to our attention that the absence of scale and orientation information on the map illustrations, as well as the somewhat obscure documentation of certain pertinent survey specifications, may tend to make the illustrations misleading and possibly confusing. The authors offer their apologies for these oversights and present the following additional information.

Paleomagnetic and K/Ar whole rock absolute age data are described for material from the Garian area of Libya, centered at 13°E, 32°N. Within-unit cleaned paleomagnetic directions from the essentially unaltered lavas are very well defined and can almost certainly be taken as reliable measurements of the geomagnetic field direction during the initial cooling of each flow. However, the distributions of mean direction, from which the effect of repeated sampling of the field at one time has been...

This study is the second of a series in which a main concern will be to try to establish the Neogene absolute motion of the African Plate. A combined paleomagnetic and K–Ar whole rock age dating study has been made of the Jebel Soda basaltic volcanic area of central Libya. Sixty basaltic flows were sampled in an area centered on 28°45′N, 15°30′E. Precisely defined paleomagnetic directions were obtained for 57 of the flows. Considerable attention has been given to the problem of data...

Sixty-three cases of obstructed labour encountered at the University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia, are analysed for the period April 1972 - December 1973. For the same period there were 27 348 deliveries and 1 432 Caesarean sections. The management of choice was Caesarean section, because of a lack of experienced medical staff and the poor results obtained, together with the serious complications which follow destructive operations before vaginal deliveries. Eighty-five per cent of the...
