Abstract The genetic heterogeneity of congenital hearing disorders makes molecular diagnosis expensive and time‐consuming using conventional techniques such as Sanger sequencing of DNA. In order to design an appropriate strategy of molecular diagnosis in the Algerian population, we explored the diversity of the involved mutations by studying 65 families affected by autosomal recessive forms of nonsyndromic hearing impairment (DFNB forms), which are the most prevalent early onset forms. We...

Researchers agree that information resources are imperative for curriculum support. Equitable access to information resources by teachers and learners is absolutely essential to enable them to execute their curriculum-related tasks. This paper aimed at assessing the impact of baryte mining on land pollution in Azara, Nigeria. Two barytes mining sites were selected; Vein 2 and Vein 17. Measurements and observations were carried out to indentify the impact of baryte on land pollution in the area. The findings revealed that areas of about 77226m 2 and 132096m 2 were devastated in Vein 2 and Vein 17 respectively. The Findings also revealed that rain-fed farming, grazing and mining were the major land uses in the area with...

The negative effect of Climate Change (CC) on agriculture across Africa has been well established and hence the global policy interest. In Nigeria, crop farming is climate dependent and farmholders often employ measures that are sub-optimal against adverse conditions of climate. This raises the vulnerability of farming to CC uncertainty. For a long time, knowledge of CC perception by farmholders dominated the existing literature. The study employed econometric techniques to generate...

This research was carried out to examine suitability of the regular school curriculum to learners with disabilities in inclusive classrooms in Kisumu County in Kenya. At the end of the 1990s the national government initiated an educational reform mandating that the language of kindergarten through Grade 2 be in a “language of the community”. This chapter looks at the example of the challenge of establishing a school in the Nalik language of New Ireland Province. While the change...

Sub-Saharan Africa is particularly vulnerable to climate change. Multiple biophysical, political, and socioeconomic stresses interact to increase the region’s susceptibility and constrain its adaptive capacity. Climate change is commonly recognized as a major issue likely to have negative consequences on food security and livelihoods in the region. This paper reviews three bodies of scholarship that have evolved somewhat separately, yet are inherently interconnected: climate change impacts,...
