This paper looks at the crisis of women’s education in Zimbabwe from a socio-cultural point of view; or what the author terms edu-culture. The main argument of the paper is that in spite of numerous post-independence changes, such as free primary education, the Legal Age of Majority Act, the creation of a Ministry dealing specifically with women’s affairs, etc, women still find themselves in a man’s world. This is evidenced by institutionalised biases against women in education and...

The major result of the study was a finding of consistent sex differences in pictorial depth perception. Males tended to perceive three dimensionally while females tended to perceive two dimensionally.

Estimates of rates of return to investment in education by level for Papua New Guinea are presented using 1986 market sector earnings data. The fragmentation of the educational system and marked increases in unit outlay and opportunity costs as educational level increases particularly focus attention on reforms that impinge upon unit costs and enrolments by educational level, and by courses and institutions. The scope for attracting non-government resources points to the need to widen...

Abstract This investigation explored the perceptions of 53 teacher college lecturers concerning the influence of a series of national examinations in teachers’ colleges in Papua New Guinea. Results indicated that these examinations were neither valid nor reliable and that they disrupted college life. Though the evidence revealed that the examinations promoted rote learning and ‘spoon‐feeding’ teaching, the Ministry of Education failed to respond. Political considerations seem to be the basis for the examinations.
