Abstract While mastery of aspects of music theory is relevant to rapid learning and understanding of a new choral part, many choirs comprise members with no formal education in music theory. Also, the language of music theory is not intuitive, with many terms having meanings different from those in common use, which can present obstacles for mature learners. The authors hypothesised that students joining an internationally recognised university choir might master aspects of music theory as a...

An impact of vitamin D in neurocognitive function has been theorized but it remains unknown whether vitamin-D insufficiency (VDI) is associated with worse socio-emotional adjustment (SEA) in vulnerable early school-aged children. This study examines the thesis that deficits in SEA are related to VDI using longitudinal data from 254 children that are perinatally HIV-infected (PHIV), exposed-uninfected (HEU), or unexposed-uninfected (HUU). In utero/peripartum antiretroviral (IPA) exposure was...

The low-lying Senegalese sandy coast is extremely vulnerable to marine flooding and erosion. Using climate and wave reanalysis, we establish the remote connections between Atlantic climate modes and coastal wave variability in Senegal. We show that impacting swells come from the North Atlantic in boreal winter but also from the South and Tropical Atlantic in boreal summer. Near shore-normal tropical cyclones swells have a large impact on the sea level contribution at the coast but a limited...

# Background Globally, an estimated 2.7 million neonates died in 2015 during the neonatal period, including approximately 0.7 million intrapartum deaths. In Tanzania, 46,000 neonates died in 2016. Nearly two-thirds of these deaths could have been prevented through improvements in quality of care at the time of delivery. Although the colonies received education, schools were segregated according to race and ethnicity, and were designed to produce racially stratified societies, while loyalty and allegiance to Britain were encouraged so that all felt they belonged to the...
