Abstract This article briefly reports on the views of Ethiopian Higher Education teachers who participated in three Teaching Methodology Workshops which were held in Ethiopia during 1995 and 1996. Key issues relating to the development of higher education provision in Ethiopia are identified. The paper concludes with the suggestion that the best prescriptions for Ethiopian Higher Education are likely to arise from within the country, subject to appropriate exposure to potential models and techniques

Women college students in four countries were invited to write the story of their first menstruation in as much detail as memory allowed. Stories were received from 26 Lithuanians, 27 Americans, 20 Malaysians, and 23 Sudanese. In 1992 the Islamic Medical Association of Uganda designed an AIDS prevention project and conducted a baseline survey prior to community level activities. Results of that baseline were previously reported in this journal. During 2 years of prevention activities in local Muslim communities, 23 trainers educated over 3,000 religious leaders and their assistants, who in turn educated their communities on AIDS during home visits and at religious gatherings. The purpose of this study is to identify and examine the factors that affect asking que tions in an EFL setting in a tertiary level 'cience classroom in Ethiopia. To accomplish this task, 25 females and 19 males were provided with a list of factors that were reported by other group of students as inhibitive and were required to designate the extent to which each factor exert influence on them. From the sample students' ratings six factors were identified as restrictive by more than 56% of the respondents.
