The trachyte caldera volcanoes Kilombe and Londiani have abundant syenite boulders lying on their surfaces. Kilombe also has a syenite inclusions in post-caldera flows and tuffs. Petrographic and chemical investigations show that most of the syenites are very similar to the associated lavas. An origin by almost complete crystallization of batches of trachytic liquid in magma chambers under each volcano is proposed for these. Separation of a small amount of residual melt gives rise to a few...

Syrian golden hamsters received intratracheal instillations of 0.125, 0.25, 0.50 or 1.0 mg benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) in a mixture of Tris buffer and physiological saline once weekly for life. Papillary polyps, squamous cell papillomas and carcinomas developed in both the larynx and trachea. Abstract Elemental mercury is associated with industrial wastes discharged through the main effluent pipe of the Chlorine-Alkali plant at El-Max area west of Alexandria. The minimal mercury value of 0.1 ppm dry weight is assumed to be the background level for uncontaminated sediments in the area. Mercury level ranged from 8.02 to 15.5 ppm in the beach sands from the polluted area beyond the plant, and from 0.14 to 1.4 ppm in the bottom sediments off Alexandria. The Chlorine-Alkali plant is...

The study to an analyse of 726 samples of sea water, taken monthly (1977-1978) at 23 stations. At the basis of the data concerning the NPP of total coliformas, 75,5% of the samples point out a clean water for the bathing place, 11,04% = "acceptable" and 9,96% = "dirty". Considering the data about the MPP of fecal coliformas and of fecal streptocques, the sanitary state is reported in 94,23% "clean for the bathing place", 1,77% "acceptable" and 4% dirty.

At least since the beginning of this century, access to education has been the proximate determinant of class differentiation in Tanzania, and in much of Africa.
