Abstract A subadult male from a captive group of Guinea baboons learned, by trial‐and‐error, to use a tool to rake in food. He then used the tool 104 times over 26 days, thereby providing the group with most of its food. No other group member used the tool during this period. The ankaramitic scoria and carbonatite tuffs of the Lashaine volcano, northern Tanzania, contain a suite of alkalic pyroxenite xenoliths, in addition to the previously investigated magnesian lherzolite types. SUMMARY Epidemiological and clinical observations on streptococcal infections in 156 Egyptian school children aged 6 to 12 yr were obtained by prospective bacteriological, serological and clinical surveys from 1967 to 1970. The yearly recovery rate of group-A streptococci from the throat varied from 13 per cent. to 24 per cent.
