It is commonly acknowledged that collocations play an important role in the field of ESL/EFL acquisition.Previous seminal studies have reported students' development of collocational knowledge and use of collocations regardless the difficulties students may encounter in learning collocations, specifically, Arab students. The present study focuses on students' collocational knowledge, particularly, Yemeni EFL university students who were attending an Intensive English Course (IEC) at...

Volcanoes tend to develop gravitational instabilities during their lifetime, essentially due the presence of hydrothermal layers or superficial aquifer, dyke injection and the nature of the basement. Once the volcano reached an unstable state, earthquake, strong wind, new dyke injection or eruption can trigger flank collapse, resulting into a debris avalanche which is characterised by high mobility and long run-out and poses thus a serious threat for nearby population. Many volcanoes that...

The Rungwe Volcanic Province extends between the Rukwa and Nyasa (Malawi) rift lakes, which both experienced marked water level fluctuations during the last 40 ka. The infilling of water reservoirs, whether artificial or natural, is known to be able to trigger earthquakes and volcanism. In the southwestern Highlands of Tanzania and especially in the Rungwe Volcanic Province, where the western and eastern branches of the East African Rift System meet, a similar link is highlighted....

Disabled young people in many low and middle-income countries experience significant levels of educational exclusion due to disabling social and physical environments and are more likely to be illiterate than their non-disabled peers. Most social sciences and development literature, however, tends to homogenise the educational trajectories of disabled young people and focuses predominantly on the perspectives of educationalists, development experts and carers in assessing educational needs...

Can learner autonomy be promoted through programmed teaching? To answer this question, a model of teaching vocabulary learning strategies programme, designed to help English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners acquire autonomy in vocabulary learning, was developed and tested through an experimental study conducted at a secondary school in Libya. The present paper discusses the results obtained from the study. The data was collected through pre-test/posttest, logbooks. The participating students...

The advancement in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has brought new opportunities for learning. Tanzania is adopting the new technologies in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) through e-learning and m-learning. However, delivery of learning contents is becoming a challenge for HEIs due to the constraints in resources and network bandwidth. This study discussed learners’ perceptions on using e-learning applications and mobile devices for learning in three HEIs in Tanzania....

The Bunia earthquake sequence commenced on July 02, 2013 with an earthquake of magnitude 5,1 at 13:33 (UT). The main shock with magnitude about M=5.7 occurred on July 03, 2013 at 19:21 (UT). It was followed by the largest aftershock of magnitude M=5.1 at 22:22 (UT). These tremors were felt strongly mainly in Bunia (DRC) and Hoima (Uganda), distant from epicenter , respectively, at about 55 km and 67 km; according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, and GFZ-Geofon program ....

The sensitivity of vector borne diseases like malaria to climate continues to raise considerable concern over the implications of climate change on future disease dynamics. The problem of malaria vectors shifting from their traditional locations to invade new zones is of important concern. A mathematical model incorporating rainfall and temperature is constructed to study the transmission dynamics of malaria. The reproduction number obtained is applied to gridded temperature and rainfall...
