Objective: There is an increased interest in looking at gender differences in health and disease, including oral health. This study assessed the gender differences in oral health habits among first year undergraduate students. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study of first year undergraduate students with data collated using an interviewer administered questionnaire which elicited information on socio demographic characteristics of the participants, mouth cleaning habits and...

Climate change affects men and women differently, specifically in income-related to activities. In the case of market gardening, cropping techniques, input costs and quantities used vary according to sex. This work analyzes economic justice in this context of unequal access to resources by gender. The regression analysis on data collected from actors in the market gardening sector showed that women have lower incomes than men because their production related to climate change are too low....

This paper addressed the factors affecting ICT adoption in a survey of 300 public and private secondary school students in Ogun state, Nigeria. Likert Scale self- designed questionnaire was the instrument of data collection. Data collected were analysed using frequency, scores, percentage scores, total weighted values and factor analysis. The ungrouped factors obtained using the mean weighted values were grouped into five dimensions using the factor analysis. The research showed that five...

The radio is a powerful audio aid and an important media for education. It is one of the most effective means of imparting education to a large number of people. The work of scientists such as Nikola Tesla, Guglielmo Marconi, Lee De Forest and others are credited with all forms of radio broadcasting which started in the late 1800s. in the early days the radio was mainly used by the military during the first and second world wars. This paper traces the historical development and evolution of...

The application of an appropriate teaching methodology plays an important role in the acquisition of language skills. Soft skills such as oral and listening skills are all important for young adults who are about to enter the working world. However, soft skills are not well captured in the curriculum at the university level. Thus, employing Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) may hinder learners from noticing these important skills that are useful in real life. This study aims to demonstrate...

Pupil-teacher ratio (PTR) is one of the key measurements of quality education. This article presents the pupil-teacher ratio for 133 public primary schools in a local government area (LGA) of Ogun State, Nigeria. The data were obtained from a complete enumeration of the records of each school. It was discovered that the average PTR obtained from the data analysis is higher than the national average. Using PTR equals 35 as a benchmark of Nigeria, only 25 (19%) schools out of the 133 schools...

Abstract: This study aims at specifying the concepts of modern geographical techniques that should be included in geography books in secondary schools through analysing the content in the light of modern geographical techniques which this study arrives at. The list includes 36 concepts divided into two main fields: remote sensing technology and geographical information technology. The list is characterized with credibility and constancy enough for the purpose of this study. This study is...

South African schools are finding electricity costly in terms of money that could be spent on the primary purpose of educating children, but they tend not to be proactive about these costs. Managing the monthly bills is a huge task: the usage numbers on the bill are incomprehensible, the time-of-use tariff structure is bewilderingly complex, and the person who deals with payments is usually an overburdened teacher. This paper describes a controlled behavioural experiment carried out at five...

Intestinal helminthiasis, a health problem in the developing world; is due to factors that promote their survival and transmission, with children at the highest risk.Using direct wet preparation and Formol-Ether concentration techniques; survey carried out revealed an overall prevalence rate of 34.8%.These parasites were identified with their corresponding rates: hookworms -26.8%,Ascaris lumbricoides -9.4%, Strongyloides stecoralis -1.7%, Trichuris trichura -1.7%, Enterobius vermicularis...

This article evaluates a “real-time” simulation where students role-play a United Nations Security Council negotiation over humanitarian intervention in Syria. This simulation is undertaken in a large introductory International Relations (IR) subject. The article argues that in order to achieve deep learning outcomes across the diverse, contemporary cohort of first-year university students, active learning approaches need to be employed that engage differing learning styles and preferences....

Background: Most electronic resource (e-resource) studies have been undertaken in universities because e-resources are crucial in enhancing students’ research and learning activities. However, there is a paucity of e-resources research in postgraduate theological universities, particularly in Ghana. This study, therefore, investigated students’ level of use of e-resources at the Akrofi-Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture. Objectives: The study’s specific objectives were to...

Remote sensing data proved to be a valuable resource in a variety of earth science applications. Using high-dimensional data with advanced methods such as machine learning algorithms (MLAs), a sub-domain of artificial intelligence, enhances lithological mapping by spectral classification. Support vector machines (SVM) are one of the most popular MLAs with the ability to define non-linear decision boundaries in high-dimensional feature space by solving a quadratic optimization problem. This...

Abstract In the context of recent climate changes and their impact on the vegetation cover in the southern shore of the Mediterranean, this paper deals with the potential distribution in the present and the future of the Aleppo pine in the north‐east of Algeria. Accordingly, this study focuses on modelling of the spatiotemporal distribution of the Aurasian Aleppo pine, by means of MaxEnt program. The models developed with MaxEnt showed good predictivity with AUC > 0.80 for the RCP 4.5 and...
