Abstract In order to determine the presence of dermatophytes and saprophytes in healthy toe and finger nails, 120 students (60 male and 60 female) from preparatory schools at Sohag Governorate (Upper Egypt) were studied. 54 species in addition to 3 varieties belonging to 17 genera were isolated. The data on nutritional status of preschool children were collected during the 14 days of examination. Four nursery schools were randomly selected while 101 children were chosen by systematic sampling from these schools. Anthropometric evaluations were conducted. The result showed that 17 (16.8%) of the males were malnourished by weight for age index, 22 (21.8%) females were malnourished by this standard. 3005 primary school children from randomly selected primary schools in Jos and its environ were screened for trachoma. The schools were divided into 3 groups reflecting the socio-economic status, and the degree of personal hygiene of the pupils. The recent astronomy of the Arab countries began by the last decade of the 19th century in Alger and the first decade of the 20th century in Helwan.
