We carried out a dracunculiasis control study through health education in three southwestern hyperendemic villages of Burkina Faso. The villages were organized in the framework of Primary Health Care. Two years after the beginning of health education the sickness was eradicated. Feasibility, low cost and acceptability by populations of health education make it a main part of any dracunculiasis control strategy.

Studies conducted along the Gulf of Guinea in Ghana have shown that the coastal environment in some places is polluted. Efforts made to combat this problem have so far not been effective and recent data indicate an increase in pollution of the coastal zone. Summary Metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of late Middle Proterozoic age are preserved in basins along the northern margin of the Kalahari Craton. Three broad stratigraphic divisions are recognized: a lower acid extrusive unit, a basic extrusive/red bed unit and a shallow marine unit. The basalts of the basic extrusive/red bed unit are interpreted to be continental within-plate basalts. Copper mineralization occurs as native copper in amygdaloidal altered basalt, and as sediment-hosted,...
